I got in my running time early yesterday morning. Then last night I realized my legs were swollen from above the knees down into my ankles. It was uncomfortable but no pain. I was not swollen this morning but decided to take it easy today just in case. There was plenty of office/desk work to be done. About 6pm I realized that my ankles were very swollen but knees and rest of legs were not. Again, no pain. I used ice and put my feet up but can't figure this one out. I haven't started any new medication or made any other signifcant changes in diet, etc. Well, except that I'm training for a marathon! Any ideas?
Thanks,
Debra

I retain a lot of fluid and have swelling in my calves and ankles. I take a diuretic occasionally and that helps. It doesn't really seem to relate to running though but it makes my legs feel heavier when running.
Maybe you are not drinking enough water and salt is causing you to retain fluid. Sitting at a desk with your legs hanging down for long periods can make them swell. Prop them up as often as possible.
Just a guess.

I agree with Jana - are you hydrating enough? You may want to try more water.
